St Ives held an outstanding Heritage Open Day on Saturday, 13th September, coinciding with the Old Riverport Jazz & Blues Festival with both events bringing many visitors to town.
On the day the Chapel on St Ives Bridge welcomed a record number 360 guests, while the Norris Museum greeted 176 visitors – twice as many as a typical Saturday. Holt Island had an exceptional number of 196 visitors and received numerous positive remarks from them as they toured the nature reserve.
The Town Hall, Masonic Hall, Methodist Church, Free Church, Parish Church, Prayer & Education Centre and Sacred Heart Church were all busy greeting guests. Town Councillors, building guides and volunteers welcomed many inquisitive visitors and took pleasure in talking about some of our wonderful old buildings and discussing their history.
Civic Society team members wearing bright pink HOD sashes handed out leaflets and welcomed visitors around the town centre on this annual celebration of the nation’s history and culture.
