What places in St Ives matter most to you?
A favourite building, a tucked‑away green space, a landmark you pass every day?
This autumn, residents will have the chance to nominate these special locations for inclusion on a new Local Heritage Assets List – a joint project by the Civic Society and St Ives Town Council.
Across the country, many places loved by local communities cannot be nationally listed, even when they hold deep historic or emotional significance. Local Heritage Asset Lists help protect these sites by ensuring they are considered in future planning decisions. Cambridge City already has such a list, but Huntingdonshire does not – so St Ives is stepping forward.
From October 2026 to February 2027, residents can submit nominations. A team of volunteer local historians will research each suggestion, and a panel of experts will decide which should be recommended to Cambridgeshire County Council.
Nomination forms will be available on the Civic Society’s website and in public venues across town. In Spring 2027, an exhibition will celebrate all the nominated sites and share the final decisions.
Christine Phillpotts, Chair of the Civic Society, said:
“This campaign gives everyone in St Ives the chance to speak up for the places that matter to them. Whether natural or built, large or small, these sites help tell the story of our town. By identifying them now, we can help protect St Ives’ heritage for future generations.”
