When interesting events happen to, or in, the town, we celebrate the occasions by making a donation, usually in the form of trees, benches, the historical information for any new Heritage Information Boards, sponsorship of a summer concert on The Waits.

2023 was an exceptional year, however, when the country celebrated the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla with street parties. The Civic Society took part in the town celebrations, also marking the occasion with a donation of a Coronation memorial bench and two rowan trees to provide a restful place to sit on Slepe Hall field.

In tandem with this, donations which had been given by some of the alumni of Slepe Hall Girls School for a Heritage Information Board were used to commemorate the presentation of the school’s playing field to the town some years ago. We look forward to all these elements being installed in an opening ceremony by the mayor during 2024.

We also contributed to the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Memorial Bandstand erected on The Waits in the autumn of 2023 to provide protection against summer showers for participating musicians.
